About Bella Mera IV (Hailing from Jamestown, RI)

    Grand Banks 42 Heritage MY

    (from Grand Banks Sales Brochure)

If gracious hospitality is high on your cruising wish list, the Grand Banks 42 Motoryacht just may have been your craft-of-choice.

With spacious accommodations for up to three couples, the 42 Motoryacht was popular with those who liked to entertain guests as well as with the charter trade. In large part, the yacht's record of superb safety, stability and dependability were responsible for the relaxed onboard atmosphere.

The motoryacht's sleek, teak exterior as well as the generously proportioned salon with its full view out to the water were also high on many an owner's list of prized attributes.

And when it came to the master stateroom with its queen-size bed, separate head and shower as well as a teak-crafted arrangement of drawers, cabinets, shelves and desk-- well, how could things have gotten any better? Forward, you would have also found two roomy staterooms that shared a large head with shower.

At breakfast or at cocktail hour, guests were sure to find their way to the spacious deck outside above the aft cabin, a popular feature of the 42 Motoryacht.

Our new boat (vessel / trawler) is a Grand Banks 42' feet Motor Yacht (GB 42 Heritage MY)built in Singapore by American Marine ("Grand Banks"). She has the 3 stateroom (standard) layout. She is powered by twin Caterpillar 2 x 210 Hp (3208s). Her cruising speed is 9.0 knots. Hull number is 956. Her original owners Phil Donahue and Marlo Thomas named her Mugsy. We are her third owner (before our GB motoryacht became Bella Mera IV she was name Reditus Mare by her 2nd owner and kept in Westport, CT).

Now after more than 2 months at Conanicut Marine in Jamestown, RI we are feeling right at home! Bill and May Munger are doing a great job making our "Jamestown" feel like a real home (May thank you - despite a few moments "of friction"! /Stefan). We look forward to a great summer and beyond in the Newport, RI area and surrounding waters.

We Love Our Grand Banks - Lena & Stefan Solvell

We have joined NEGBOA (New England Grand Banks Owners Association) and look forward to our meet in Block Island in July, 2005 and Westbrook, CT in September.

    Grand Banks Parts
We just purchased some new Grand Banks parts for Bella Mera IV from Atlantic Yacht Rigging and Supply in South Norwalk CT (but not without drama -- they recorded the wrong credit card info, and shipped an incomplete order).

After a great season Bella Mera is stored on Terra Firma. She served her masters well (with the exception of a leaking oil cooler on our way back from the NEGBOA North East Grand Banks Owner's Association meeting in CT in September).

May 9: Bella Mera is back in Narragansett Bay. All is well after major work by the 'Caterpillar Experts' from DePaul Diesel in Portsmouth, RI worked on her 3208 Caterpillar Marine Diesels over the winter.

Summer in full swing. We attended a great Grand Banks event in Essex, CT (July 14, July 16, 2006) hosted by Boatworks Yacht Sales. Great fun for everyone! Check out the pictures of Bella Mera IV. First Grand Banks Heritage in the Flotilla. Grand Banks Rendezvous 2006 GB Rendezvous photo link.

This summer we spent a lot of time on Block Island (New Harbor). Our friends from Germany (Ola & Merete) agree that Crescent beach is "world class". Potter's Cove on Prudence Island feels like as second home. Our Swedish / American crew (Christina Moliteus & Magnus Moliteus) loved it

Bella Mera is having her deck boxes (2) updated this winter. The teak is wearing thin and the original screws are coming out of the teak. 86 stainless steel screws later (removed and repalced) the deckboxes have been refinished with Cetol (from Jamestown Distributors) in our Wellesley basement.

We had a great summer 2007 with no mechanical / maintenance issues. Our marina (CMS) did a great job, thank you May and Bill Munger.

    Highlights:
  • New Slip at Conanicut Marine Service.
  • Participated in a 10 day cruise with the East Greenwich Yacht Club (EGYC). We have applied for membership in EGYC, but the waiting list is loooong.
  • First row at the Tall Ships in Newport 2007.

The EGYC Cruise 2007 took place from August 1st to August 11th. The crew visited Block Island, Three Mile Harbor, Sag Harbor, Hamburg Cove, Essex and Watch Hill before returning back to EGYC.

This winter we are staying at the Wickford Shipyard in Wickford, RI (historic Wickford Village is a great place to visit year round). The 'Round House' yard on Conanicut Island was not leased by CMS this season. After some turbulence we have arrived at WS and feel very much at home there.

In March 2008 we become members of the East Grenwich Yacht Club (E.G.Y.C.) - The East Grenwich Yacht Club is located charming East Greenwich Rhode Island. Lena and I look forward to making lots of new friends and to get to know this part of RI better. Bella Mera is scheduled to splash on April 23, 2008 and will be back in her slip at Conanicut Marine Service by May 1, 2008 -- promises Bill Munger the owner of CMS.
